Want $25 Million? Manny Ramirez Doesn't posted on 02/03/2009

Manny Ramirez turned down the Dodgers 1 year-$25 million contract today. $25 million would have made Manny the second highest player this year. Can you guess who would be the highest? Maybe the third baseman for the New York Yankees?

Turning down a $25 million deal is just absurd. For one, it's not like Manny has any other numbers out there, and at a one year deal, Manny could have definitely shopped that around for a bigger number. Countless number of teams would definitely be interested in Manny for just one year. Teams are certaintly balking at giving Manny two years.

Perhaps Manny is trying to follow in the path of former NBA player Latrell Sprewell, who turned down a lucrative contract from the Timberwolves. For your information, Sprewell has been out of the NBA.

Manny should just take the one year deal and spend the 2009 season complaining and refusing to play.

A cloud of uncertainty with Citi Field posted on 02/03/2009

This offseason has not been kind to the Wilpons. First was the Madoff scandal, which cost the Wilpons personally. Now news broke earlier today that Citigroup might have to pull out of their naming rights for the Mets new stadium.

Congress has blasted Citigroup for entering into a $500 million naming rights deal with the Mets in the current economic climate, which has cost thousands of jobs at the company. Citigroup has argued that none of the federal bailout money will go towards the naming rights deal.

U.S. Reps. Dennis Kucinich, (D-Ohio), and Ted Poe, (R-Tex.) led the barrage against Citigroup. Although I am a bit biased as a Mets fan, I can agree that a pricey naming rights deal does send the wrong message, when a company like Citigroup is cutting 50,000 jobs and receiving federal aide. Citigroup is nowhere near the trouble that Enron was when their naming rights deal with the Astros ended, but in this economic climate, every big corporation receiving a slice of the stimulus plan is under a microscope.

Kobe Bryant's Record Setting Night Leads Lakers Over Knicks, 126-117 posted on 02/02/2009

Earlier today, the Lakers learned that starting center Andrew Bynum would be out for eight to 12 weeks with a knee injury. All Kobe did tonight was set the record for most points at Madison Square Garden with 61 points to beat the Knicks.

Kobe's scoring prowess tonight was uncanny. He was hitting shots from all over the floor and even nailed all 20 of his free throw attempts. How did Kobe get loose? Well D'Antoni's strategy was to let Kobe score 34 points in the first half in hopes that he would wear down. Only he was just warming up...

For the Knicks, David Lee recorded another double-double with 24 points and 12 rebounds. It is his 36th double-double this season.

So who's up next for the Knicks? Lebron James and the Cavaliers. Lets hope the matador defense doesn't show up Wednesday night, or else Lebron could score 62.

Too Funny Not To Post: Matt Cassel Pissed On At Superbowl posted on 02/02/2009

According to the New York Daily News, a drunk fan tried cut in front of New England Patriots QB Matt Cassel in the bathroon. After Cassel refused to let the man cut in front, the man barged into the bathroon and purposely peed on Cassel's leg.

Naturally, security led the drunk out of the stadium with Cassel's leg soiled for the rest of the evening. Rotoworld.com had the best quote with, "Cassel was forced to return to his seats with smelly wet pants. He'll surely be able to replace them with what's set up to be an exceptionally lucrative offseason."
